Research Associate - Trait Development Continuous Nursery– Kekaha, HI - 2354 Role Purpose – The purpose of the Research Associate is to lead the execution of regulated trait event selection trials in corn, soybean and other crops, strictly follow compliance guidelines and stewardship practices, and provide quality yield and agronomic data to assist scientists in delivering project goals by providing technical assistance, as well as to support site management with the functional activities of a continuous regulated trait breeding station. Accountabilities – • Assist in the planning, design, and writing of field trials and experiments. • Oversee the planting, sampling, pollinating, harvesting, shelling and shipping of trials. • Collect data, develop data summaries, interpret results, and make appropriate conclusions and recommendations. • Provide weekly updates, written progress and status reports, timelines and data as requested by project leads. • Manage staffing needs, including hiring and assembling proper crew for necessary activities. • Understand, communicate, oversee, and execute complex work instructions. • Work with other station stakeholders in a positive manner to ensure project success. • Manage Field Technicians and oversee tasks performed by third-party contract labor. • Read and understand scientific literature, participate in meetings and share relevant information with others. Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities – Critical knowledge • BS degree in a relevant scientific discipline. • Demonstrated knowledge of breeding principles and methodologies and how they relate to the development of superior products. Critical experience • A working knowledge of farming equipment. Critical technical, professional and personal capabilities • Ability to use MS Office, especially Word and Excel, and other standard software. • Ability to use and support proprietary database. • Ability and motivation to learn new technologies. • Ability to work in a team and to communicate with individuals throughout the organization. • Excellent organizations skills. • Ability to obtain a Passport for international travel. Additional Information – General Requirements: • All applicants must be eligible to work in the US. Physical Demands of the Essential Functions: • Capable of working in high or low temperature conditions in field or greenhouse. Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds. Capable of working long hours during time-critical periods of the growing season. Working Conditions While Performing Essential Functions: • Field, greenhouse, laboratory, office. Work may be performed under environmental conditions of extreme high temperatures and moisture. pollen, fungal spores, agricultural dust, chemicalPotential allergens pesticides in the field or greenhouse. Occasional travel to continental U.S.A. required for training and conference purposes. Travel outside continental US may be required.
